“Poetic Forest Hideaway”

Sometimes only a proverb will do. 花鳥風月, kachō fūgetsu means Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon, which translates to "experience the beauty of nature, learn about yourself". Complete sentences fail even us at this restorative ryokan enfolded in the contemplative cedar woodlands of Japan's ancient imperial capital, a few hushed footfalls from the Kinkaku-Ji "Golden Pavilion" temple. Kyoto’s cultural charms are undeniably alluring, but moments at Aman are a masterclass in Ma, the Japanese principle of time and space from which life needs to grow.

What we love

Stillness has never been our forte, but the mist-shrouded gardens, with their ancient stone paths,
moss-bordered waterfalls and birdsongs, bestill our beating hearts. Decades of nurturing have
resulted in a Wabi-Sabi wonderland that permeates and perfumes every moment, and there are
many of them in this serene masterpiece designed by the late Kerry Hill. Impeccable service goes
without saying, but the hot spring-fed, boulder-fringed onsen and lantern-lit spa will have you
speaking in Haikus long after you check out.
