“Passage to Princely India”

According to an Indian proverb, “There is no hand to catch time.” If ever there were a place where the legacy of the Rajputs remains beyond time’s reach, suspended in bygone blush, it would be at Amanbagh. Here, palatially-domed pavilions and collonaded pools dappled with palm shade are forested away from the din of modernity on the fringes of the Rajasthani desert in the Aravalli Hills. A timeless dreamscape where tigers once roamed, and princes once camped. Fable-worthy, palpably peaceful, and undeniably otherworldly.

Best time to visit : January to June, October to December

What we love

We adore Ed Tuttle’s masterstroke interpretation of Maharaja-minimalism — tranquillity faceted with Udaipur marble, broken only by birdsong and the occasional mischief-making monkey. Regal, for sure, without being restricting. Level-up your Ayurvedic A-game with Ayurshala Immersions and Abhyanga, or for the yoga session to end all yoga sessions, sunrise salutations atop a majestically positioned Mughal-era parapet, which left us speechless, as did so many things here.

Set in an oasis of fruit trees and flowering shrubs, Amanbagh's Pavilions and Suites create a cool and welcoming contrast to the stark, arid beauty of Rajasthan's Aravalli Hills. Some feature private pools, terraces and courtyards while all have a grand palatial feel, reflecting their royal past as a former hunting ground for the Maharaja of Alwar
